Three Durham beaches found unsafe for swimming

Test results for the week of August 23 indicate that three beaches have been posted as unsafe for swimming due to elevated bacteria levels.

Beaches are posted as unsafe for swimming when elevated levels of E. coli exceed the provincial standard of 200 E. coli per 100 ml of water.

Tests carried out at all Durham Region beaches include testing water samples for high levels of bacteria to let beach visitors know which beaches are safe for swimming. Unless otherwise indicated, results reflect routine, weekly monitoring conducted by Health Department staff.
