Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday said a stunt driver has been arrested after fleeing from police.
On Saturday, March 16th at about 3:20 am, members of DRPS Central East Division were on proactive patrol when they observed a vehicle driving in an unsafe manner near Valley Drive and Simcoe Street South in Oshawa.
A traffic stop was attempted but the vehicle fled from police. The suspect vehicle was pursued for a short distance before it blew a tire and was forced to come to a stop. The driver was taken into custody without incident, police said.
A 20-year old male from Brampton is charged with numerous fences. He was released on an undertaking.
The driver’s licence has been additionally suspended for a further 30 days and his vehicle impounded for 14 days.
Stunt Driving offences include operating a motor vehicle at 40 kmh or more over the posted speed limit if the limit is less than 80 kmh; or 50 kmh or more over the posted speed limit if the limit is 80 kmh or greater.
Impaired at 8 am?
Meanwhile, the DRPS Traffic Services reported stopping a driver for agressive driving and possible impairment at 8am yesterday morning.
“It’s 8am and our team along with DRPS Central West Division were dispatched to a possible impaired driver who was driving incredibly aggressive throughout [the] Town of Whitby,” said a police alert.
The driver was stopped, and blew an alert.
The motorist was issued a three-day suspension and numerous offence notices including open alcohol and careless [driving], police said.
