Traffic stop driver takes off on foot…but not for long

DRPS officers have arrested a suspect after seizing a firearm and drugs following a traffic stop in Oshawa.

On Saturday, May 29, 2021, members from the DRPS Central East Division-Community Response Team stopped a vehicle in the area of Toronto Avenue and Ritson Road South for a Highway Traffic Act offence. Upon further investigation, officers discovered a quantity of drugs (cocaine) and attempted to arrest the suspect when he fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody and a firearm was located.

Osas Okungbowa, age 29 of Smales Drive, in Ajax, is charged with: Possession of Restricted/Prohibited Firearm No Licence/Registration; Possession of Restricted/Prohibited Firearm Knowingly Not Holding a Licence/Registration; Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm; Possession of a Loaded Restricted/Prohibited Firearm; Carry Concealed Weapon; Possession Contrary to Order; Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking; Mischief Under $5,000 as well as other provincial offences. He was held for a bail hearing.
