Trespasser activity and undefined issues at railway crossings yesterday resulted in the cancellation of at least one GO train, as well as delays on others.
“There are several railway crossing issues between Guildwood GO and Rouge Hill GO. Repair personnel are working on the issue, but there will be delays until the issue is fixed, Metrolinx, the operator of GO Transit, advised users via its Twitter handle Lakeshore East Train.
The issue with trespassers was reported at around 5pm. “The Union Station 17:05 – Durham College Oshawa GO 18:07 train is delayed 14 minutes east of Union Station due to trespasser activity,” said a customer advisory.
Soon after, another said: “The Durham College Oshawa GO 17:10 – Union Station 18:12 train will run express from Guildwood GO to Union Station because of a railway crossing issue. Customers can board the next train scheduled to depart Guildwood GO at 18:12 making all stops.”
The Union Station 17:20 – Durham College Oshawa GO 18:22 train was delayed by 10 minutes east of Union Station due to trespasser activity, as was the Union Station 17:35 – Durham College Oshawa GO 18:37 train by 11 minutes from Scarborough GO due to a trespasser activity.
Train cancelled
It appears as if the issue took some time to resolve as the Union Station 17:35 – Durham College Oshawa GO 18:37 train was cancelled at Pickering GO as a result of a railway crossing issue, in addition to the earlier trespasser activity. Customers were asked to take the next eastbound train arriving in the next 5 minutes.
The Union Station 17:50 – Durham College Oshawa GO 18:52 train was delayed 15 minutes from Guildwood GO due to a railway crossing issue, and the Durham College Oshawa GO 18:40 – Union Station 19:42 train was run express to Guildwood GO, and then made all stops from Guildwood GO to Union as a result of a railway crossing issue.
A few hours later, Metrolinx announced that the railway crossing issues between Guildwood GO and Rouge Hill GO had been fixed. “Trains are operating as scheduled.”
