Teens in Pickering Town Centre robbery with fake gun

Durham Police yesterday said two youth are in custody for an armed robbery with a firearm.

On Friday, November 10 at about 6:25 pm, members of West Division responded to reports of an armed robbery at the Pickering Town Centre located at 1355 Kingston Road in Pickering.

Two male suspects stole a satchel bag from two victims using a firearm. The two suspects fled the mall prior to police arrival. Officers searched a plaza near the mall, in the area of Kingston Road and Liverpool Road. The two suspects were observed walking toward a restaurant in the plaza, said a police statement.

Officers attempted to stop the two suspects but they fled on foot, and a foot pursuit was initiated. With the assistance of the K9 unit both suspects were taken into custody. One suspect was further uncooperative and sustained a K9 bite to his leg. He was transported to a local area hospital with minor injuries. A search of the area revealed a bb replica firearm that was dropped by the suspects during the foot pursuit, police said.

A 17-year-old male from Ajax and a 14-year-old male from Pickering were charged. The 17-year-old was held for a bail hearing. The 14-year-old was released on an undertaking.

An 18-year-old male was also arrested but released unconditionally, police said.

Anyone with new information about this incident is asked to contact D/Cst. Sheridan of the West Division Criminal Investigations Branch at ext. 3961.
