Carjacker in custody after trying to get past police block

Durham Police yesterday said a youth has been taken into custody after a carjacking in Ajax.

On Monday November 13 at about 2:45 am, members of West Division responded to a call for a stolen vehicle in progress in the area of Rollo Drive and Hewitt Crescent in Ajax.

A Toyota SUV was stolen from the driveway of a residence in the area. Officers located the stolen vehicle fleeing northbound on Pickering Beach Road. They positioned their cruisers to block the roadway as the suspect vehicle traveled toward them, said a police statement.

The suspect vehicle attempted to maneuver around the police cruisers and made unintentional contact. The suspect driver was taken into custody without incident. There were no physical injuries sustained by the suspect or officers.

A 17-year-old male from Quebec was charged and held for a bail hearing.

Anyone with new information about this incident is asked to contact Cst. Davis of West Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 3849.
