Durham Police said two males are in custody following an investigation into multiple violent stabbings across the Durham Region.
Incident 1: On Sunday, June 16, at about 2:25 am, members of Central East Division responded to an armed person call in the area of Simcoe Street South and Bloor Street East, in Oshawa. A male suspect stabbed another male multiple times, before fleeing the area. The victim was transported to a local area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Incident 2: On Monday, June 17, at about 5 pm, member of Central East Division responded to an armed person call in the area of Simcoe Street South and Maple Street, in Oshawa. A male suspect assaulted another male with a weapon, before fleeing the area. The victim was transported to a local area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Incident 3: On Saturday, June 22, at about 4:25 am, members of Central West Division responded to an armed person call in the area of Cedar Street and Simcoe Street South, in Oshawa. A male suspect stabbed another male multiple times, before fleeing the area. The victim was transported to a Toronto area trauma centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Incident 4: On Monday, June 24, at about 9:15 pm, members of East Division responded to an assault call in the area of Old Varcoe Road and Varcoe Road, in Courtice. Two male suspects stabbed another male multiple times, before fleeing the area. The victim was transported to a Toronto area trauma centre for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
On Friday, August 2, investigators arrested the first suspect responsible for the stabbings. He was taken into custody without incident.
On Tuesday, August 13, investigators arrested the second suspect responsible for the stabbings. He was taken into custody without incident.
The suspects and victims are all known to each other. All stabbings were isolated incidents. Police have no concerns for public safety.
A man, age 47 from Oshawa, and another , age 24 from Whitby, were charged and held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
