Proposed Whitby halfway house for parolees cancelled: mayor

Mayor Roy

Whitby Mayor Elizabeth Roy has announced that the proposed halfway house for parolees in Whitby will not be coming up after all.

A consultancy company called Audmax’s had announced plans to open a halfway house on Lupin Drive, in a letter to neighbourhood residents.

The announcement drew opposition and the mayor’s office was informed (see earlier story below). There has already been some concern over a shelter on Dundas Street.

“As part of my commitment to keeping residents informed, I wanted to share that we have just been advised that Audmax will not be proceeding with their proposed halfway house on Lupin Drive in Whitby,” said Mayor Roy in a statement issued on Friday.

“Correctional Service of Canada has been advised the same. I thank our community members for their patience as we worked to get more information on this proposal,” she added.
