Durham Police yesterday said five males have been arrested after stealing a large amount of copper wire from a business in Clarington.
On Thursday, August 15 at around 2:40 am, members of East Division responded to a theft in progress call at a business located in the area of Lake Road and East Shore Drive.
Police received information that five males were loading a large amount of copper wire into the rear of a U-Haul cube van. The suspect van fled the area prior to police arrival, said a police report.
It said a short time later police located the van entering Highway 401, and initiated a traffic stop. Officers checked the rear of the van and found several hundred pounds of copper wire. Five suspects were taken into custody without incident.
The five suspects, aged 20 to 37, were charged and released on an undertaking. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
