Two pedestrians die in Ajax, Pickering crashes on Saturday

Two 60-plus pedestrians – a woman and a man – were killed in separate road accidents on Saturday in Ajax and Pickering, Durham police said yesterday.

A 64-year-old female died after being struck by a dump-truck in Ajax, while a 68-year old man died after being struck by a SUV in a parking lot in Pickering.

Ajax Tragedy: On Saturday, July 11 at about 3:50 pm, officers from West Division responded to a collision involving a dump truck and a pedestrian at Hunt Street and Harwood Avenue South.

The dump truck was making a right turn from Harwood Avenue South to go west on Hunt Steet when it struck the pedestrian. Life saving measures were performed by emergency services personnel; however, the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries at the scene, police said.

The driver of the dump truck remained on scene and is cooperating with police.

Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The roads in the area were closed for several hours while evidence was collected. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

Senior Dies After Being Struck In Parking Lot

A 68-year-old male has died after being struck by a vehicle in a Pickering parking lot.

On Saturday, July 11 at about 10:15 pm, officers from West Division responded to a collision involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian in the parking lot of 1105 Kingston Road.

A black Ford SUV was driving through the parking lot when it struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian was trapped under the motor vehicle for a period of time. Responding police officers lifted the Ford SUV to extract the pedestrian and performed life-saving measures. Despite the efforts of emergency services personnel, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver of the motor vehicle stayed on scene and is cooperating with police.
