Businesses open despite road woes at Simcoe, Wilson, Park

The City of Oshawa has announced that despite several ongoing roadworks projects, businesses in the affected areas will remain open.

Several of the projects are long-term in nature. Road restrictions deter road users due to perceived traffic delays and parking limitations thereby impacting businesses along the affected roads.

With Park Road scheduled to close beginning on Monday, July 13 for a Ministry of Transportation (MTO) overpass replacement, the city reminded residents that businesses remain open and encourages them to follow detour routes.

There are several major transportation upgrades underway across Oshawa led and scheduled by other levels of government – Metrolinx, Ministry of Transportation and Region of Durham.

“We encourage you to support the businesses that contribute to our neighbourhoods and local economy. Follow detour signage if your route is affected,” said the city..

Ongoing Road Projects

Current concurrent projects include:

  • Simcoe Street bridge replacement – It is a Metrolinx project. The full closure of Simcoe Street between Avenue and Albany Streets for two years as part of Metrolinx’s Bowmanville Extension of the Lakeshore East GO rail service.
  • Wilson Road South overpass replacement – MTO project. The full closure of Wilson Road South from Dieppe Avenue to Bloor Street East until late Spring 2027, as part of MTO’s Highway 401 widening program.
  • Cubert Street and Park Road South Highway 401 overpass replacement – MTO project. This work requires the long-term closure of Cubert Street and Park Road South from Bloor Street to College Avenue until Fall 2027. Cubert Street is now closed and Park Road South will be closed beginning July 13.

Additionally, the rehabilitation of Farewell Street is currently underway by the Region of Durham, with northbound lanes closed from Bloor Street East to Wentworth Street East until November. Southbound traffic is permitted through this section while northbound traffic is being detoured. Follow posted detour routes.
