Uxbridge bridge closed due to safety concerns

The Township of Uxbridge has announced that the bridge on the York/Durham line, located some 550 metres north of Zephyr Road and crossing Mount Albert Creek, will be closed until bridge repairs are completed.

The closure is effective from today (Wednesday December 7, 2022), and is due to safety concerns, the township said.

It was not made clear when the bridge and the road up to it and beyond would be reopened.

The road will be closed north of Durham Road 39 in the Township of Uxbridge to south of Ravenshoe Road in the Town of East Gwillimbury. This road closure includes the bridge that was previously closed for repairs in January 2022. The detour route currently in place and local access to private property remains unchanged.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience,” said a township statement.

“The Town of East Gwillimbury and the Township of Uxbridge are jointly undertaking the project to replace the affected bridges. Bridge engineering design will take place in early 2023 and bridge replacements are planned to occur through 2023 and 2024,” it added.
