Vaccine bookings for 18+ in hot spots open today

Durham Region Health Department and Lakeridge Health will begin operating Covid-19 vaccination pop-up clinics for residents 18 and older, or who will be turning 18 in 2021, living in Ajax and Pickering hot spot postal code areas.

The first pop-up clinic location will be at the Ajax Community Centre, 75 Centennial Road, Ajax. This clinic will operate by appointment only, said a joint statement.

On April 22, 23 and 24, appointments will be available for residents living in the L1S, L1T, L1V, L1X and L1Z hot spot postal codes from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm. Appointments will be available for booking beginning on April 21 at 9 am by visiting covidvaccine.lh.ca or by calling 905-721-4828. Individuals in the identified hot spots must show proof of age and address when arriving at the clinic.

Starting on April 25, hot spot appointments for residents 18-plus will continue to be available at the Ajax Community Centre every Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday until May 28. Appointments can be booked at covidvaccine.lh.ca or by calling 905-721-4828.

Community mass vaccination clinics continue to operate across the region. Residents 50-plus who live in any of the hot spot areas can also book an appointment at a mass immunization clinic. Individuals 18 to 49-years old who live in a hot spot area must book at a hot spot pop-up clinic or attend a hot spot mobile clinic. For information on clinic locations or additional eligibility requirements visit www.durham.ca/covidvaccines.

The Health Department is also working with multiple community partners to provide additional hot spot clinics including other pop-up locations, mobile and workplace clinics in Pickering and Ajax. More information will be announced in the days ahead.

In addition to local clinics, all Durham Region residents 40 and older, or who will be turning 40 in 2021, are now eligible to book appointments through participating pharmacies to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine, as recently announced by the province. For information on participating Durham Region pharmacies see https://covid-19.ontario.ca/vaccine-locations.

Clinic appointments are based on vaccine availability, which is the responsibility of the province working in partnership with the federal government. Once vaccines spots have been fully booked, clinic appointments are no longer available. As additional vaccine is confirmed, more spots will be added.
