Durham police have issued an arrest warrant for a male after he befriended and defrauded an older male out of $33,000 for landscaping and repair work in Clarington.
The suspect is also wanted by five other police services across Ontario for fraud related charges, police said.
In May, investigators with the East Division Criminal Investigations Branch began an investigation into a male suspect after it was reported that he defrauded a 78-year-old victim for more than $33,000.
The suspect befriended the victim over a period of a month and agreed to provide landscaping and repair services on the victim’s property. The suspect was paid but completed no work, police said.
At the time of this incident, the accused was on conditions not to seek/accept payment for any work until it’s completion, police added.
Investigators believe the suspect specifically targets vulnerable and older individuals through a variety of fraudulent schemes.
Police have concerns there may be further victims. Name, photo of the suspect and further details can be viewed at www.drps.ca.
The suspect, age 40 from Clarington, is wanted on several charges.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact D/Cst. March of the East Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1605.
