Waterfront parking lot and trail closed on Monday

Residents are being advised of a temporary parking lot, and trail closure on Monday, June 13, the Town of Whitby announced yesterday.

It said a barge is being removed after completion of works on West Whitby Pier by the Federal Government’s Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada is completing and fully funding the work to:

  • Strengthen and maintain the existing structure; and,
  • Repair the outdated pier, which is not for pedestrian use but rather serves as an important break wall to protect the harbour from damaging waves.

The following lot and trail closures remain in place to support this work:

  • Closure of the public parking lot next to Lions Promenade Park – visitors looking to enjoy the waterfront can park at the public lot on Water Street across from the pump-house.
  • Closure of the Whitby Waterfront Trail through Promenade Lake Park – for their own safety, residents are required to obey posted signage and remain outside the construction area during the closure.

The work to restore the pier, which started in January 2022 is expected to be completed later this year.
