Watermain break disrupts traffic on Athol Street

A watermain break yesterday on Athol Street in Oshawa disrupted traffic well into the night.

“The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department advises residents of lane restrictions near the intersection of Centre Street (Regional Road 2A) and Athol Street, in the City of Oshawa due to a watermain break,” said municipal announcement.

It said Centre Street had one southbound lane restricted, with the remainder of lane restrictions were beginning at approximately 10 pm last night to minimize impact to traffic and water service disruption. Restrictions are ongoing until repairs are complete.

Where: Southbound on Centre Street, from King Street to Athol Street. Athol Street, from Simcoe Street (Regional Road 2) to Centre Street, beginning at approximately 10 pm.

Note: Residents and businesses in the immediate area may experience a water service interruption or decrease in water pressure during the repair. When the water service returns to normal, it is important for customers to turn on a cold water tap only and let it run for approximately five to 10 minutes to clean out any sediment that may have accumulated in your water service. This will avoid any sediment entering the hot water system.
