Weapons-ban teen forces his Uber driver to flee from police

A 17 year old teen is facing charges after pointing a firearm at an Uber driver while attempting to flee police in Whitby.

On Friday, March 6, around 12:35 am, members of Central West Division initiated a traffic stop in the area of Brock Street and Chestnut Street.

The subject vehicle slowed and continued at a low speed before finally coming to a full stop. A male opened the rear passenger door and fled the vehicle on foot. Officers engaged in a short foot pursuit before taking the suspect into custody, police said.

The accused was on a firearm/weapons prohibition and an order of conditional supervision for several violent offences at the time of his arrest.

The 17-year old from Oshawa was held for a bail hearing.
