Whitby Junior Fire Chief is active team member

Adrian Foster-Freeman has been announced as the 2022 Junior Fire Chief by Whitby Fire and Emergency Services (WFES).

Adrian, a grade seven student at Glen Dhu Public School, was selected out of the graduates from this year’s Junior Firefighter Summer Camp. At camp, Adrian demonstrated knowledge of fire safety, was highly engaged, and willing to help others.

As part of the 2022 Fire Prevention Week (October 9 to 15), Adrian was picked up at his school by a fire truck and driven to Whitby Fire Hall 5 for a day of Junior Fire Chief training. Adrian’s training included learning how to use equipment such as hoses and extinguishers. He also had the chance to experience an aerial ride and received training on auto extrication. He also received a new bike thanks to Canadian Tire, said a town statement.

Throughout the coming year, Adrian will join Whitby firefighters at a number of community events.

The Junior Fire Chief for the Year Contest is supported by Durham District School Board and sponsored by Canadian Tire North and St. Louis Bar and Grill.
