‘My boss called’ is no reason to pick up your cell phone

The East Division of Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS), which is currently on blitz against the use of cell phones while driving, must have received some very convincing – and also some very innovative excuses.

But one the excuses that has been a big no, no, is a driver claiming he ‘had’ to answer a call from his boss.

“My boss called,” is not a reason to pick up your cell phone!, said a police tweet.

It reasonably said if you have to answer a call, pull into a parking lot, use the shoulder, or just don’t answer while driving!

“Follow the rules of the road”.

$615 fine: East Division officers fined another driver $615, awarded three demerit points and a 3-day suspension when the ticket is paid.

More cell phone tickets today. Put the phone down and drive safely, it said.

On phone with police around: While on a traffic stop, an East Division spotter saw another vehicle with a driver talking on the cell phone.

The officer was able to direct the second driver to the shoulder.

It turned out to be a G2 driver using cell phone. The person got 30-day suspension when the ticket is paid, $615 fine and three demerit points.

Big Killers

DRPS East Division tweeted that the four big killers on our roads are:

  1. Distracted Driving
  2. Aggressive Driving
  3. Impaired Driving
  4. Not wearing seat belts

Be safe on our roads, it’s for your safety and the safety of those around you. We will see you, it added.

Meanwhile, DRPS Traffic Services officers partnered with DRPS East Division and Clarington Works Department to utilize works vehicles in conjunction with DRPS vehicles to conduct a cellphone focused enforcement initiative throughout the area.

Stay off your phone, we will see you before you see us, it promised.

Five violations by one driver in just one go

DRPS Traffic Services said they stooped a driver who committed five traffic violations during the drive along Taunton Road between Harwood and Salem in Ajax.

The driver sped through a red light failing to stop, was speeding, changed lane not in safety, failed to surrender insurance and drove with hand-held communication device.

The motorist received hundreds of dollars in fines along with demerit points.

Smirk turns upside down: A G2 driver’s smirk turned upside down when caught on Taunton Road going from Ajax into Pickering.

The person was charged with follow too close, speeding, change lane not in safety and fail to surrender insurance card.

Respect other motorists on the highway, said DRPS Traffic Services.

$1,000 in tickets: DRPS Traffic Services issued tickets to a motorist along Taunton and Altona Road in Pickering for speeding, tint, and marihuana/cannabis charges.

Just under $1,000 in tickets and demerit points for the speeding.

Another driver with no regard for anyone else on the road, said a tweet.
