DRPS Traffic Services seems to be cracking down on drivers using phones while on the road.
They caught a driver (below) on Lake Ridge and Kingston Road in Ajax busy checking the cell phone instead of proceeding for an advanced green light.
Charge – drive hand-held communication device $615 and demerit points, said a police tweet.
Meanwhile, officers from Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) East Division reported another driver using a hand-held communication device (cell phone).
The motorist (below) also had an expired driver’s licence and expired plates – and was fined $1,030 and three demerit points.
East Division officers were on a cell phone blitz in Bowmanville yesterday.
“Don’t do it! Put away the hand-held communication device and drive safely,” they said while pointing out that penalties for the violation include a $615 fine, three demerit points and a three-day suspension when paid. (Second offence seven-day suspension, third = 30-days).
The East Division also reported a driver for Fail to Stop at Stop Sign, Improper Muffler and Unnecessary Noise (loud muffler).
Total fine of $330 bucks and three demerit points, they said.
DRPS Central East Division, meanwhile, said it started a two week October Traffic Initiative yesterday.
The DRPS CE Division Traffic Safety Team are out enforcing the HTA and keeping Oshawa roads safer.
The September Initiative resulted in 450 tickets 75 per cent of those in school zones, and 100 warnings, it said.
DRPS Traffic Services clocked a driver in Pickering doing 136kmh in an 80-zone.
The motorist got a 14-day vehicle impound, 30-day suspension of licence, and a court date.
“Slow down, drive safe and be alert,” officers advised.
In north Durham, DRPS North Division traffic enforcement at Uxbridge Concession Road 6 and Wagg Road, led to one stunt driving charge, two speeding charges, one for stop sign, one for careless driving and one insurance charge.
The driver got a 30-day licence suspension and a 14 day vehicle impound as well.
