New courts at Guildwood and Stuart parks coming

Clarington residents will soon see new courts at Guildwood Park in Bowmanville and Stuart Park in Courtice as crews begin work to replace the court surfaces, said a municipal statement.

Guildwood Park is slated for a new tennis court surface, and at Stuart Park, the basketball court will get new asphalt. In addition, the tennis courts at Stuart Park will be replaced by new pickleball courts to support the growing demand for the sport.

Work at Guildwood Park includes:

  • Replacing the chain-link fence.
  • Replacing the existing court surface with new asphalt, painted lines and acrylic surface treatment.
  • Installing new benches, waste bins, and tennis court nets.

In April 2023, crews will begin working at Stuart Park to:

  • Replace the chain-link fence.
  • Replace the existing basketball court surface with new asphalt, painted lines and acrylic surface treatment.
  • Replace the existing tennis courts with new pickleball courts, including new asphalt, painted lines and acrylic surface treatment.
  • Install benches, waste bins, basketball nets, and pickleball court netting posts.
  • Plant trees.
  • Pave asphalt pathways.

During the construction, the parks will remain open; however, there may be impacts to on-street parking, and some areas will be fenced off for the safety of the community. All work is expected to be completed by June 2023, the statement said.
