Fatal collision closes off Taunton-Harwood for hours

Durham Police yesterday said a 69-year old female resident of Oshawa has died as a result of a multi-vehicle collision that occurred in Ajax on Friday afternoon.

On October 7 at approximately 2:26 pm, members of West Division were called to a serious motor-vehicle collision involving three vehicles at the intersection of Taunton Road West and Harwood Avenue North. A 2014 red Mazda 5 was travelling east on Taunton Road when it struck three stopped vehicles at the intersection in the eastbound lanes, said a police statement.

Emergency services attended the scene within minutes, however the female passenger in the Mazda 5 succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. The driver of the Mazda 5 was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre with non-life threatening injuries. The occupants in the other involved vehicles were uninjured.

Members of the DRPS – Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The area of the roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected
