Whitby reopens upgraded Waterfront Trail with new bridge

The Town of Whitby has officially reopened the upgraded section of the Whitby Waterfront Trail between Forbes Street and Boundary Road (Intrepid Park), following months of construction.

According to the town, the trail improvements were made possible through a $2.6 million investment from the Government of Canada via the Active Transportation Fund.

The upgrades include the full reconstruction and widening of the asphalt trail to four metres to better accommodate both cyclists and pedestrians. The work also involved the installation of a new three-metre-wide pedestrian bridge and scenic boardwalk, replacing aging infrastructure to improve accessibility and enhance the user experience along the waterfront.

The Town of Whitby says the project reflects its ongoing commitment to promoting active transportation and creating safe, inclusive, and enjoyable outdoor spaces for both residents and visitors.
