There were some 150 crashes reported by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division by just 1 pm yesterday.
“Approx. 150 collisions in the #GTHA since 5am. Busy day for tow trucks and first responders with extended wait times for roadside assistance. Wait until the weather system has passed before heading out for non-essential appointments,” said an alert.

Port Perry Fairgrounds Pop-in Cancelled
Meanwhile, the Township of Scugog, reported cancellations due to the ongoing winter weather.
“Due to the recent and forecasted snowfall, the December 11 Your Voice, Your Fairgrounds Community Pop-In will be postponed. We will provide an update once a new date has been selected. In the meantime, input can be submitted digitally,” said a township statement.
The Port Perry Fairgrounds pop-in session was scheduled at Nestleton Community Centre on Thursday from 6 to 8pm.
Scugog also announced that all township-run recreation activities at the Scugog Arena were cancelled last night (December 10). The status of private rentals are up to the discretion of the organizer, it said.
Winter Parking
The township said with the recent and ongoing snowfalls, teams have been in full force for winter operations
“As the winter weather continues, we would like to remind travellers to respect these crews when clearing snow,” said the township.
Similar snow clearing advisories were issued by other Durham municipalities reminding car owners not to park on the streets so as not to obstruct snow plows.
Meanwhile, Elexicon Energy reported power outages yesterday in parts of Ajax and Whitby.
