One youth is in custody and at least three suspects are wanted after a jewelry store robbery in Oshawa, police said.
There have been a raft of smash-and-grab robberies at jewelry stores, most at Oshawa Centre, in recent months. Suspects in most of these robberies are teens. (see below).
On Wednesday, January 21, around 6:40 pm, members of Central East Division responded to a robbery call at Oshawa Jewellery located in the Oshawa Centre at 419 King Street West.
Three males entered the mall and attended the jewelry store where they smashed display cases before fleeing with jewelry, police said.
One of the suspects was intercepted in the mall and taken into custody. The other two suspects fled the mall into a waiting vehicle. The suspect vehicle fled the area prior to police arrival.
No customers or employees suffered any physical injuries, police said.
A 13-year-old male from Hamilton is charged with: Robbery, Disguise with Intent, and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000.
He was held for a bail hearing.
At least three suspects remain outstanding, police said.
Anyone that was in the mall or parking lot between 6:00 pm to 7:15 pm, and has cell phone footage or information is asked to contact police.
