16 impaired drivers removed from roads during Ride Week IV

DRPS completed its fourth week of the 2024 Festive Ride program, stopping more than 3,500 vehicles  and removing 16 impaired drivers from Durham roadways.

Week four of the Ride campaign saw 16 impaired drivers taken off our roadways.  This week, the Ride team arrested a G1 driver and their qualified driver for impaired driving offences.  The law requires qualified drivers to be fully licensed drivers and have a blood alcohol concentration less than 50 mg per 100 mL.

The DRPS Ride team conducted spot checks across the region with the following totals (the numbers in brackets reflect 2023 fourth week totals for comparison):

  • Vehicles stopped by Ride – 3517 (1991)
  • People given Roadside Breath Tests – 244 (120)
  • People received “3 Day Suspensions” for registering a warn – 23 (12)
  • Novice Driver received a 3, 7 or 30  Licence Suspension – 5 (5)
  • People were charged with Impaired Driving Offences – 16 (16)
  • Other Criminal Code Charges – 5 (1)
  • Charged with various Highway Traffic Act offences – 237 (162)
  • Drug Offences – 2 (2)
