16-year old turns self in for murder of 23-year old

DRPS has arrested a 16 year old male for the third murder in the region this year.

Police did not provide details of the weapon used in the homicide and have withheld the name of the deceased. The motive for the crime has also not been released.

On Saturday, May 9, around 8:10 pm, members from Central West Division responded to an armed person call in the area of Simcoe Street North and Winchester Road East. Officers arrived on scene and located a 23-year-old male with injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene (see below).

On Monday, May 11, the suspect surrendered himself to DRPS Homicide investigators in Oshawa, and was taken into custody without incident.

This is believed to be an isolated incident, police said.

The 16-year-old from Brampton is charged with second degree murder and held for a bail hearing.

Anyone who was in the area between 7:30 pm to 9 pm, that has cell phone, dash cam, surveillance footage, or any information is asked to contact Det. Laura Middleton of the DRPS Homicide Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5418.
