$4.8 million for Whitby Recreation Complex

The federal government is investing $1.9+ million towards renovations to the Whitby Civic Recreation Complex. The provincial government is providing over $1.6 million, while the Town of Whitby is contributing over $1.3 million.

The project involves the renovation and optimization of the facility, including the creation of accessible family change rooms and repurposing of lobby space to support additional programming. In addition, the fire alarm system, heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment; electrical panels; pool lighting and filtration systems; and public address system will be improved, said a joint statement.

The project will increase the safety and reliability of the facility, and improve the quality and accessibility of aquatic programs, particularly for families with young children, seniors, and individuals with disabilities.

All orders of government continue to work together for the people of Ontario to make strategic infrastructure investments in communities across the province when needed most.

Renovations to the CRC are expected to begin later this year and will include new:

  • Family/inclusive change rooms to improve access to aquatics programming, particularly for families with young children, seniors, and individuals with disabilities;
  • Multi-purpose programming space for all age groups to enjoy; and,
  • Safety equipment upgrades, like new fire alarms, pool lighting and ventilation systems.

The work is expected to be completed by late-2022. These upgrades are needed to ensure the facility can continue to serve Whitby’s growing community.
