Two major accidents involving seniors took place in the Durham Region on Monday. One man survived but another succumbed to his injuries after the collision.
On Monday, September 14, at around 4:35 pm, members of West Division responded to a collision in the area of Bayly Street East and Clayton Road in Ajax.
Officers attended for a report of a wheelchair accessible taxi being involved in a collision with another motor vehicle. A passenger in the wheelchair accessible taxi was seriously injured as a result of the collision and transported to a Toronto-area hospital.
The 65-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the hospital as result of this collision, police said.
Members of the DRPS Traffic Services Branch, Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene to investigate.

91-year old On Mobility-Assisted Scooter Hurt In Whitby Crash
In Whitby, a 91-year-old male is in stable condition after being struck by a Honda sedan.
On Monday, September 14, around 8:35 am, members of Central West Division responded to a collision in the area of McKinney Drive and Taunton Road East.
A 44-year-old man was driving a Honda sedan southbound on McKinney Drive, approaching the intersection of McKinney Drive and Taunton Road East. The driver conducted a left turn and struck a 91-year-old male on his mobility assisted scooter as they were northbound in the crosswalk.
The 91-year-old male suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local area hospital in stable condition.
The driver of the Honda sedan remained on scene and is cooperating with police.
Members of the DRPS – Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected. At this time the investigation remains ongoing.
