A 71-year-old woman suffered life-altering injuries in a serious two-vehicle collision in Uxbridge on Tuesday afternoon, according to Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS).
Officers from North Division responded to the crash at about 3:35 pm on April 29. The collision occurred on Davis Drive, west of Uxbridge Concession 4. Police say a Ford pickup truck, driven by a 45-year-old man from Barrie, was travelling westbound on Davis Drive when he attempted to pass a transport truck by entering the eastbound lane. At the same time, a Dodge Journey, driven by a 64-year-old man from Omemee, was travelling uphill in the eastbound lane.
As the vehicles approached each other, both drivers tried to avoid a head-on collision. The Ford left the roadway to the left, while the Dodge swerved off to the right. Despite the evasive action, the two vehicles collided head-on off the roadway.
The 71-year-old female passenger in the Dodge sustained serious injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency crews. She was transported to a trauma centre in the Toronto area, where police say she remains in stable condition. Both drivers were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact Detective Constable Rayne of the Collision Investigation Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5256.
