90-year old driver suffers life-threatening injuries in crash

Durham Police said an elderly female driver is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a collision Friday afternoon in East Gwillimbury.

On February 23 at about 2:10 pm, members from North Division responded to a report of a collision involving a motor vehicle and a dump truck at the intersection of York Durham Townline and Sandford Road in East Gwillimbury.

The motor vehicle had been eastbound on Sandford Road and upon entering the intersection collided with a northbound dump truck who was going straight through the intersection, said police.

The 90-year-old driver of the motor vehicle sustained serious life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Toronto trauma center. The driver of the dump truck remained on scene and was cooperating with police.

Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The roads in the area were closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
