Elexicon Energy issues alert over ‘disconnection scam’

Utility provider Elexicon Energy has warned its customers in Durham about a new scam that is preying on their fears of an impending disconnection.

“Individuals claiming to be from Elexicon Energy are contacting customers and threatening disconnection. Some are being advised to call 1-866-684-0676 within a certain window of time. This is not Elexicon Energy,” said the alert.

It said in some cases, customers are being threatened with disconnection unless a money e-transfer payment is made immediately. “We do not accept money e-transfers, cash payments or digital currency,” Elexicon said.

It advised customers that if they receive a call like this, hang up and report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
