The City of Oshawa yesterday announced yet another successful year of Toys for Tickets. This holiday season, community members contributed more than $2,200 to the campaign.
Motorists who received a parking ticket from the city between November 17 and December 1, had the opportunity to make an online contribution to the toy drive in lieu of payment.
Contributions received were used to purchase toys that will be distributed to local families in need through the 33rd Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) Food and Toy Drive. The City of Oshawa’s Toys for Tickets program has supported the community through the Food and Toy Drive since 2007, said a city statement.
“The Toys for Tickets campaign annually highlights the generosity of the Oshawa community,” said Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter. “Especially this year, during a time that has been difficult for so many, those who are able to have given to those in need. It is this spirit of charity and benevolence that makes me so proud to be the Mayor of this great city.”
“I would like to thank the Oshawa community for their participation in this year’s Toys for Tickets,” said Councillor Bradley Marks, Chair of the Corporate Services Committee. “Every year I am amazed by the kindness shown through this program. Donations received will transform the holidays for families in our community. Thank you for turning your parking ticket into a positive experience.”
“Thanks to all who participated!” said Councillor Jane Hurst, Vice-Chair of the Corporate Services Committee. “Your unintentional parking mistake has benefitted a local child – so you’re back on Santa’s ‘nice’ list!”
