Teen banned for using fake notes at mall… does it again

A male Durham teen is facing charges after using counterfeit money at a business in The Shops at Pickering City Centre.

Prior to his arrest, the accused was already bound by court orders not to be in possession of counterfeit currency or attend The Shops at Pickering City Centre, police said.

On Thursday, February 5, a teen entered Shop404 located inside the Pickering City Centre at 1355 Kingston Road, and used counterfeit money to purchase merchandise.

A short time later, while checking cash in the register, staff verified the bill was counterfeit, police said.

Investigators were able to confirm the identity of the suspect and arranged for him to turn himself into police without incident.

A 17-year-old of Pickering was held for a bail hearing.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact D/Cst. Kane of the Financial Crimes Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5371.
