Impaired 71-year old flees but rolls car minutes later

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) said one of the 16 drivers arrested in week three of the ongoing Festive R.I.D.E was a 71-year-old who fled from a collision in Hampton and then rolled his vehicle minutes later.

On December 4, police received a call at about 11:25 pm and responded for a Fail-To-Remain at Enfield Road and Regional Road 3 in Hampton. The suspect fled the scene in a 2020 Honda but rolled over his vehicle minutes later near Highway 407, police said.

The car was heavily damaged, but the suspect was uninjured. The 71-year old driver from Oshawa was arrested, found to be impaired, and charged. He was later released on an undertaking.

Police are asking witnesses to contact Cst. Birmingham of east Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext 1687 or via email to 3462@drps.ca.
