Gunshot death victim identified, police call for witnesses

Durham Police investigators have confirmed the identity of the 20-year-old victim in Durham Region’s sixth homicide of 2022.

On May 19 at noon, members of West Division responded to a motor vehicle collision near Taunton Road and Concession Road 4 in Pickering. A male was located with obvious signs of trauma and was pronounced deceased on scene.

The victim has been identified as Arawin Sapesan, age 20, of Pickering. A post mortem was conducted and the cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound, said a police statement.

Investigators are appealing to the public for assistance with this matter. Anyone who may have dash cam video that was in the area of Taunton Road and Brock Road in Pickering between the hours of 9am and 1pm is asked to contact police.
