Durham municipalities start early to clear snowbanks

Snow may have been cleared off the roads and streets across Durham, but it has been piled high in snowbanks.

The municipalities across Durham have begun the weary task of removing the heaps of snow.

Oshawa asked residents to support its crews, which it described as frontline workers.

Clarington yesterday announced its crews will begin working to remove excess snow from downtown Orono (Main Street, from Mill Street to Station Street), Bowmanville and Newcastle starting Wednesday, March 8 from 2 to 7 am.

On Thursday, March 9 work will start from 2 to 7 am, and crews will tackle King Street, from Scugog Street to George Street in Bowmanville, as well as King Avenue, from Baldwin Street to Arthur Street in Newcastle.

No overnight parking is allowed in the snow-clearing zone. Vehicles left overnight will be ticketed or towed, the municipality said.

The Township of Scugog too announced that its crews will be in March 8 around 3 am to clear snowbanks from the downtown area.

Queen Street and portions of Mary, Water and Perry Street will have snowbanks removed.

It reminded residents that there is no overnight parking on any Scugog streets as this interferes with winter operations.
