The City of Pickering has initiated a Recreation User Fee Study to review the fees and charges.
It also aims to establish a framework to inform the development of a pricing policy, and establish a process for updating and monitoring recreation fees and charges, said a city statement.
It said this study is supported by the city’s 2017 Recreation and Parks Master Plan, which recommended the development of an equitable and fair-minded Recreation User Fee Study. Monteith Brown Planning Consultants and Tucker-Reid & Associates have been retained to assist the city in preparing the study.
The Community Services Department provides a wide range of recreation and sport facilities and programs to enable residents to be physically active, pursue interests, and stay connected with others. While some of these services are provided free-of-charge, others involve a user fee or rental charge to offset municipal costs. Some examples of fees and charges include:
- Recreation programs for all ages, such as fitness, sports, aquatics, camps, and more;
- Admissions, such as recreational swimming, public skating, museum admissions, and other drop-in activities;
- Ticketed and Community Events, such as events at Pickering Museum Village;
- Specialized Services, such as community centre memberships and personal training; and
- Facility Rentals, such as ice, sports fields, gymnasiums, leased spaces, and more.
The city is seeking community input, and has asked residents to complete a survey open until March 31 at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PickeringFeesStudy.
