Tactical Unit called in to arrest 15-year old would-be robber

Durham Police said a 15-year-old male is facing charges after officers responded to a robbery in progress at a grocery store in Pickering on Thursday night.

On March 2 at about 9:15 pm, members of West Division responded to a robbery in progress at Brock Road and Dellbrook Avenue in Pickering. A male entered the store and pulled a knife on an employee and demanded cash. The suspect fled after another employee called 911.

Uniformed officers were assisted by the Tactical Support Unit to search the area and located the suspect who was taken into custody, said a police statement.

During the on-scene investigation, it was learned that the same youth entered a convenience store in the same plaza a short time prior, armed with a piece of wood and made a demand for cash.

The employees didn’t suffer any physical injuries and no property was obtained by the suspect in either robbery.

A 15-year-old male from Pickering is charged with; Robbery x2 and Possession of a Weapon for Committing an Offence x2.

He was held for a bail hearing.
