Petroleum products tanker fire averted on 401

A major conflagration on Highway 401 was averted yesterday by quick action by the driver of a tanker truck, and fire services personnel.

However, a male driver in a separate roll-over incident, also on Highway 401 yesterday, was not so lucky and sustained injuries.

A report by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division said a tractor trailer was westbound on Highway 401 just after Westney Road, when it caught fire.

It appears the brake overheated causing a fire to the tire.

The quick-thinking driver able to separate trailer from tractor. The fire was brought under control by fire services.

OPP said the tanker was carrying petroleum distillates (watch below).

It also reported multiple crashes yesterday morning across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

Driver hurt in rollover

In another incident, OPP reported a single vehicle rollover on Stevenson Road (watch below).

It said the male driver was injured and taken by ambulance to hospital.

OPP was awaiting a report on his condition.
