Kainz murder suspect named, Canada-wide warrant issued

Durham Police yesterday said a Canada-wide warrant has been issued for a 37-year-old male who is wanted for the stabbing death of Katie Kainz and the stabbing of a second female.

On Sunday, March 12 at about 4 am, members of East Division responded to an address on Simcoe Street, Oshawa for reports of an armed person.

Police arrived on scene and located two adult females suffering from stab wounds. Both females were transported to Toronto-area trauma centres where one has succumbed to her injuries, said a police statement.

The 37-year old male suspect of Oshawa is wanted for Second-Degree Murder and Attempt Murder.

Investigators are urging him to contact counsel and turn himself into police. Anyone who is found to be assisting the suspect to evade police is guilty of an offence under the Criminal Code of Canada and will be prosecuted to the full extent, police said.
