Christmas trees get new purpose in conservation initiative

The Town of Whitby has partnered with the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (Cloca) to repurpose used natural Christmas trees for environmental restoration efforts.

Trees collected by the town will be delivered to Cloca, where they will be used to stabilize stream banks, control erosion, and collect sediment, said a town statament.

Cloca already has a similar arrangement with the City of Oshawa (see below)

The initiative aims to give a second life to discarded trees while supporting local conservation efforts. By repurposing the trees, the program helps improve water quality and enhance habitat restoration in the region, the statement said.
