The City of Oshawa yesterday evening issued an alert advising Durham residents to be aware of the expected strong winds into the night.
“With strong winds expected overnight, please bring in or secure items that could blow away to prevent damage,” it said.
“If your waste collection day is tomorrow [Thursday], consider placing items at the curb in the morning to prevent them from blowing away overnight,” it added.
It also asked residents to report trees down, streetlights out or debris blocking a roadway to Service Oshawa at 905-436-3311.
If power lines were down due to strong winds, the city asked residents to report power outages to Oshawa Power at 905-723-4623.
Utility provider Elexicon Energy reported at least one outage due to ‘an unknown cause’ in Newcastle in the Municipality of Clarington. It was later safely restored by our Elexicon Energy crews.
Meanwhile, the Township of Scugog, yesterday informed residents that Scugog was under a Special Weather Statement from afternoon into the evening.
“With wind gusts of 70 to 80kmh expected; it is important to be aware of your surroundings when outside and tie down loose objects where possible,” it said.
