Uxbridge Shinrin-Yoku Forest Therapy Trail now open

The Township of Uxbridge’s Parks and Trails Department has just launched a new self-guided Forest Therapy Trail.

It’s a brand-new walk designed to promote mindfulness and well-being. A welcome respite in the face of the upcoming busy winter holiday season.

The journey begins at the lookout over Elgin Pond. The trail includes five reflection points designed to help the hiker connect with one of each of their five senses with nature. The interactive guide features yoga poses, breathing exercises, listening activities, and more, said a township statement.

It said this trail is inspired by Shinrin-yoku (forest bathing), a healing practice from Japan. Research has shown that the benefits of forest bathing include improving the immune system as well as cardiovascular and respiratory systems. The health benefits are not limited to physical well-being. It also helps with treating mood disorders, stress, and offers a mental break from the hustle and bustle of modern life.

Uxbridge’s Forest Therapy Trail is a self-guided experience to lead visitors on a journey through Elgin Park. With the aim of helping visitors connect with the natural world around them.
