Lake Ridge Road speed limit being cut to reduce crashes

The Regional Municipality of Durham will be installing a 70kmh posted speed limit on Lake Ridge Road, also known as Regional Road 23.

The speed limit will be reduced in the Township of Uxbridge from 80kmh in an effort to limit collisions.

The change will take place early this November. The section of road affected by the change is 740 metres south of Chalk Lake Road (west leg) to 675 metres north of Chalk Lake Road (west leg).

The region pointed out that speed is a contributing factor in some one-third of fatal collisions in Canada. “Reducing speed is one of the best ways to reduce the frequency and severity of collisions in the Durham Region community. Speed limits are not guidelines – they are laws.”

Additional signage and line marking enhancements will be added to reinforce this change. The speed limit reduction aims to improve safety for pedestrians and vehicles.
