Durham police yesterday said a 50-year-old pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle in Ajax.
This is the fourth incident involving a pedestrian on Durham roads in a fortnight. On October 16, an elderly pedestrian was reported to be in critical condition after being hit by a SUV. Next day, police announced that a 12-year old pedestrian was struck by 16-year old driver. On October 27, police said a 66-year old pedestrian was in critical state after crosswalk hit.
The latest incident happened on Friday, October 31 at about 6:38 pm. Officers from West Division responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Taunton Road East near Warner drive.
Was East of Crosswalk
A black Acura 4-door was eastbound on Taunton Road East at Warner Drive and struck a male pedestrian as he attempted to cross the roadway east of the intersection and not at the crosswalk, police said.
The 50-year-old male pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Acura was uninjured and remained on scene where she co-operated with police.
Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The roads in the area were closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
