The Regional Municipality of Durham announced that it is considering an application to amend the Durham Regional Official Plan (ROP) to permit new uses in an area in Courtice.
It said the ‘new uses’ could include, for example, residential, commercial, home-based occupation uses, parks, schools and community uses.
It said the amendment of the subject site use is in order to properly align the ROP with the regionally-approved Clarington Official Plan.
The area in question is generally bounded by Bloor Street to the north, Courtice Road to the east, a future midblock collector road to the south, and an environmental feature to the west, within the Courtice urban area.
The Region of Durham’s Planning & Economic Development Committee will hold a public meeting to provide the public an opportunity to make comments, identify issues and provide additional information relative to the proposed official plan amendment.
When: The public meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 2 at 9:30 am
Where: Council Chambers, Durham Region Headquarters, 605 Rossland Road East, Whitby, Ontario
Due to the current Covid-19 State of Emergency and to comply generally with the direction from the Government of Ontario whereby all organized public events of over 5 people are prohibited, the region encouraged interested members of the public to view the committee meeting via live streaming, instead of attending the meeting in person.
Interested parties are encouraged to submit written correspondence and questions prior to the meeting by emailing clerks@durham.ca by 12 pm on May 27, 2020 quoting the file number for distribution to members of council, instead of attending the meeting in person.

When will they stop putting all the garbage and nuclear plants by the lake. Many people from Canada and the U.S. get our drinking water from there. It’s too late after there’s some kind of accident and there’s no clean water left. Just because
greedy companies want it there doesn’t mean we have too. Smarten up councillors.
