Two 14-year-olds are in police custody following an armed robbery targeting another youth in Whitby last month.
On Thursday, February 19, officers from the Central West Division responded to a report of a robbery near the intersection of Taunton Road East and Garden Street. According to investigators, two male youths confronted another young person, brandishing a weapon and demanding his jacket and satchel.
The weapon involved was later identified as a conducted energy weapon (Taser). The victim did not sustain any physical injuries during the encounter.
Police were able to identify the suspects quickly and took them into custody without further incident. Both suspects are 14-year-old males from Whitby.
Both suspects face charges, and have since been released on an undertaking.
The Durham Regional Police Service is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant footage to come forward.
