Biscuits To Baskets, which has an ongoing zoning dispute with Ajax, yesterday said the town has agreed to meet with its representatives.
“As an act of good faith, we’re going to cancel our livestream we had scheduled for tomorrow (7th August) evening. Thank you all for your ongoing support, and we’ll keep you all in our hearts and please keep us in yours,” said a social media post.
The Town of Ajax responded by clarifying the timeline and nature of its by-law enforcement actions related to the business.
The Dispute Timeline
According to the town, concerns about the operation of Biscuits to Baskets — including zoning non-compliance and its impact on the surrounding neighbourhood — prompted a request for a meeting with the business on May 21. In response, the business asked that all future communications be directed to its representative, who in turn requested that those communications be made via email.
The representative later expressed willingness to meet with the town in a follow-up message. However, enforcement actions had already begun through the town’s By-law Services.
After the town issued its first formal notice of non-compliance, the business’ representative requested to speak with municipal staff. The town responded promptly by asking for available meeting dates, but said no dates were ever provided. A second notice of non-compliance was later issued.
Legal Representation
This notice was followed by a letter from a legal representative for the business. The town replied through its solicitor, again emphasizing that zoning compliance was required immediately.
Ajax staff said they will continue to take any steps deemed appropriate to ensure compliance with municipal by-laws.
