Driver speeds up to pass police chasing speedster…

It seemed it was a day of deja vu for police officers in Durham yesterday.

In one the reports, officers of the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) said they were on their way to another location to monitor when a driver “flew by us”.

They activated the emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, and lo and behold, another driver sped up to pass them. Not safe, said the officers.

“Please ALWAYS yield to emergency vehicles when lights are activated,” police pleaded.

They did not mention where the incident took place.

Another deja vu experience was withnessed by Durham’s finest in Pickering.

At a high school in Pickering a driver was pulled over for going 21kmh over the speed limit. Please slow down – take extra care out there, said the police.

“It’s like deja vu – yet another speeder in front of this Ajax high-school. This driver was clocked at 64kmh in a 40kmh zone, said the police.

Drivers get three demerit points if convicted of speeding 16-29kmh over the limit, it added.

DRPS Traffic Services said by morning yesterday in the towns of Whitby and Ajax, an officer had issued 10 tickets.

This stop on Winchester Road (below) was the worst speeding offender so far. Please slow down!, said a police tweet.
